of not distinguishing between individual and species. The unit of selective evolution is species, not individual. Human as individual being has developed a sense of purpose, not the human species as a whole.
Cultural evolution is a different story. There are fundamental differences among different cultures.
Simply put, the Chinese culture don't ask where to? We are the old fools in "The Old fool moving the mountain." We don't know where we are going. But if we have our sons and they have their sons. The destiny would be reached.
Christian culture decides that humans have no future. They lived, they died. Then they either enter the heaven or go to hell.
Buddhist culture concluded that existence is suffering. You die and then you live again and go through similar cycles through metampsychosis. Modern western existentialism view the human destiny similarly. Existence is irrational.
