The word “negro” originates from the Portuguese
word "Negro." Right from the beginning, the use of the
term "negro" as synonymous with "slave" was common, not
only in the Portuguese colonies, but also later in the
British colonies in America, and remained that way through
the end of the Civil War and up to this day. The
word "Nigger" is the result of a phonetic spelling of the
white Southern pronunciation of "Negro," at a time when
white America's spelling rules were about as lax as those
of some third-world African nations (if they could be so
called at all) today. The word “Negro” has been translated
into other languages as: Negro (Spanish) Niger (Danish)
Neekeri (Finnish), Murzyn (Polish), Negraar (Nowergian),
etc. From its inception, the word “Negro” has been
synonymous with the word "slave," the word "nigger" was
also, in some quarters, become synonymous with everything
negative about the human race.
Your erroneous belief, that a benign (or least not
offensive) word “Negro” has experienced some unexplained
metamorphosis into the current derogatory “nigger”, is far
from the truth.
You used to proudly announce that you never venture beyond the 3rd line of anyone’s posting. Still in that tradition?
