combined realtime ADCovertor/DAConvertor using usb port, which costs about $6000, labview is excluded.If you want to write your own C code for it, it will take 1-3 years for a professional programmer to do the job that catches 16-32 channels of data at the rate of 600hz/channel and at the same time to control 8 channels of external devices. Not only that, the one who does the job has to be with you all the time for the modifications and bugs-fixing.
National instruments bought Labview 2 or 3 year ago and labview has become very expensive since. But their on-phone or on-line advisors are very professional and helpful.
I spent 2 months of learning and implementing the software for my own purpose. It has been working fine since for a very complex task. That was 2 years ago. Now, I forgot the most of it and don't understand what I have wrote before.
The software I wrote does the same job as DAOS I used before under dos with a slow 386 machine. Because you cannot exclusively use the whole power of a windows PC, your software is interrupted periodically or unpredictablely by the WINDOWS OS. This is really a piss-off. Fortunately so far just the realtime disply is interrupted not the realtime data acquisition/control.
I dislike windows because you don't know what windows are doing.
