The way to success: To Chuchen

芦笛

Thanks to 2u2m, I was able to read Chuchen's mournful condolence without the support by a Chinese software (He is certainly a smart guy, knowing a lot about computer). I feel obliged to say something to my "fake-student" or "mock student" as my last testament.

First of all, your question: "Has Traitor Lu really gone?" The answer is "YES!!!!"

I am NOT going to write one single line for the BBS, not any more. I really got disillusioned with this stupid business. In future, I am going to write comments on international affairs for newspapers, and novels, short stories and essays for magazines. In other words, I am seriously considering the possibility to become a freelance, writing for money and genuine fame, eventually getting retired to Taiwan or Singapore. In the meantime, I might write some short English posters (like this one) to kill time, but not Chinese ones, never!

Let the vacuum I've left behind be felt.

My wife predicts that I will never succeed. The day before yesterday, she said to me:

"Stop dreaming. I bet no magazine or newspaper will ever accept your pieces. Go and have a look at the Chinese media yourself. They are either pro-Communists or anti-Communists. How can you fit in? There is absolutely no place for you. You are too liberal and too independent, a monster that the Chinese society can never accommodate, at least not at present. You may become famous, but it would be many years after your death. We cannot live to see that day, I am afraid."

"Qian1 qiu1 wan4 sui4 ming2, ji2 mo4 shen1 hou4 shi4." I replied by quoting Du Fu's poem that he wrote to mourn Li Bai's alleged death, which means, "You left behind a great fame to last for thousands of years, but it would come true only after your lonely death".

"Maybe," she said with a big smile-every time I am in trouble, she smiles as if it gives her tremendous pleasure, which really pisses me off, "but what's the good of it?"

She was really getting on my nerves. She surely knows how to handle me, that woman, born to be my boss and critic, alas.

Sorry I am drifting. What I want to tell you, Chuchen, is just one sentence: if you want to succeed in writing, try to avoid the pitfall that has caught me.

In case you do not understand what I am trying to say here, allow me to be more specific: Do not hang on the web for long. As soon as you have earned some fame, switch to the traditional media without hesitation. Also, do not try to be too independent in your thinking. Try to mix with others and become a representative, not a tutor, of the public, Never follow my bad example, trying in vain to teach the mob something that is beyond their comprehension or that contradicts their interests. Never take the web seriously enough to get involved in fights.

Farewell, my fake student, may God be with you.
