According to u, Ronaldo is not even the MVP of his team. How would he be the MVP of the cup? As a championship team, everyone in this team must have played an important role in their run. Should FIFA award the entire Brasil team as MVPs?
I would consider this two most important factors when selecting a Most Valuable Player for the entire trounament:
1) team success. If he is the MVP of the tournament, his team should be a team at least in the semis and possibly overachieved in the cup.
2) Consistent individual contribution to the team success. In another word, whether he would be replaceable in the team's success.
Brasil has been the favorite to win the tournament since day 1. Germany was not. No one expected them to be in the final. They came through with their defense. They exceeded their expectations. And Kahn happened to be the key to German defense. He set a record of five shootouts in World Cup final including three in the elimination phase and did not concede any goals in five of the seven games Germany played. He was the reason that Germany was able to advance with only one goal advantage in all three elimination games. Germany would definitely not go this far without the key saves made by him. The only bad play he had was after he got injured in the final.
Ronaldo had a very good tournament but he was not as consistent as Kahn all the way through. Brasil did not win the game because of him against England. He should be the MVP of the final 4 but not the entire tournament.
