Very interested in reading your story as an observer tailed back in a Chinese demonstration parade, demanding Japanese government to be honest to its recent dark history, and appreciate that you posted here a letter personally to your Dad.
However, I disagree you with your point of view at:
“The only thing that makes me morally uneasy about the whole thing is that the CCP is now using the demonstrations to put pressure on Japan to back down on their pledge to help the Republic of China in the advent of an attack from the Beijing regime.”
Do you think this is a conclusion that is jumped too far?
You might have realized that the distinct disparity in treatment of histories between Germany and Japan. Japanese government believes that they cannot do what German government did, secondary to the fact that in Japan there was no Nazi party that every thing can be blamed at. Interesting, isn't it? I know nothing about the pre-war history of Japanese political system, but this excuse virtually is saying that all Japanese were war criminal thereby it is impossible for Japan to adopt German's style for a complete apology. Were Japanese sincere, there would not have been a problem long ago.
Finally, you said “the Chinese often suffer from a cultural inferiority complex”. Does that mean the “Pale” faces are also distressed from a culture superiority complex? I know you have been in Taiwan for some time and hope this pooh-poohing Chinese is not something experienced from Taiwan.
