"Specifically, origins-of-life researchers are finding tantalizing clues as to the kinds of processes that might have helped moleculer building blocks over the hump of improbabilities taht sparates life from nonlife. Jacob bronowski suggested that "stratified stability" would play a role, but other researchers have been making Bronowski's abstration concrete. Notably, Manfred Eigen and colleagues have discovered how a "hypercycle" of molecules could arise as prosper as an interdependent and self-supporting group. If molecule A catalyzes molecules B and B does C, and so on, somewhere down the line a molecule X might catalyze A. The chain becomes a loop, and a gain made at any one step propagates throughout the cycle. The hypercycle thus shapes itself: it self-organizes.
