against LuDee's "first steel cudgel" is very disappointing, as it was pointed out to you, in a sarcastic way, by Lu himself. It gives one the impression that you are parroting his wits In my view, if one reads LuDee from the context, what he says, in this aspect, can be summarised as follows--I hope that I do not distort his views :-)
Revolution is not the right way to solve China's problems. It was proven disastrous in the past and in his view, it will cause more problems in the future. This is because
1) Revolution in modern times could be successful only if it is organised by a well-disciplined political party, which is at least as efficient as the Maoists'. Such a Mafia-style organisation could only produce worse dictators than their predecessors.
2) In comparison to evolution, revolution is much more risky, considering the fact that China is now a nuclear power. Revolution could thus lead China to the brink, or even the depth of self destruction.
3) If the interest of Chinese people is the priority for political campaigns, say, in the name of democracy, the art of constructive compromises with the rulers should be the most useful tool, as long as the route such as this is not completely blocked.
4) The reality in China is that the rulers can hardly be forced into the democratic route, as losing face is the least wanted in their games. Therefore, without the agreement, or rather, the compromises, from the rulers, prosperous democracy could not be realised in China. It is from this point of view that he concluded that the realstic way to achieve modern democracy in China should be via the "benevolent rulers".
Anyway, this article of yours is at least in the right direction and I am impressed by your amiable style. Just hope this lasts and leads to constructive discussions.
