I respect your views very much and surely hope that you are right in your assessment of Mr. Chen. However. I am sorry to say that I have totally lost any respect for this guy; and I beg to differ with your characterization of him as intelligent, broadminded and tolerant.

Any politician worth his salt could put out the most charming and flowery speech to disarm an unsuspecting reporter and gets away with it.

He may be skilful and manipulative but not intelligent enough to differentiate between right and wrong. He has a very restrictive focus in pursuing his treacherous scheme of separating Taiwan from China but possesses no room for rational dialogue towards national unity. He has shown no tolerance for any opposing ideas and has never treated mainlander Taiwan inhabitants fairly, even those lawfully wedded wives originating from the mainland.

I would have thought that you would see thru the veneer of his words and recognize the nature of his duplicity and dishonesty in his deeds.

God help the Chinese if he can even fool a critical mind such as yours.
