根據英文文法，media是個多數名詞。因此，西人寫的英文，此字總是表示多數。如要表示單數，他們就不會再用media。而改用單數的news agency。譬如下面一則新聞：

標題是：China warns Dalai Lama on Tibet immolations comments。其中就說，
Gonpo Tsering, 18, set himself alight near a monastery in Hezou city in Gansu province, Xinhua news agency reported.這裡，中共喉舌[新華社]是單數，一個社。英文就是news agency。不能用media而寫成Xinhua news media.
又有一句是："China does not look into it seriously and tries to end [the incidents] only by criticising me," Kyodo news agency quoted him as saying.這裡，日本的Kyodo是單數，一個社，用的也是news agency，單數。
接著又有兩句英文：
Foreign media are banned from the Tibet region, making the self-immolation cases hard to verify。外國新聞記者不能入藏，故無法證實自焚情況。
Chinese state media have confirmed some of the self-immolations, but not all.
中國官家新聞記者已經證實幾個人自焚，但卻沒證實全部自焚的人。
兩句中的主詞是media，多數。動詞are, have也是多數動詞。
這就再明顯不過，英文media乃是news agencies的同義字。如果可以翻譯news agencies 成[新聞業，新聞社，新聞機構，新聞界]，也就應該翻譯media成同樣的中文名詞。即，新聞業等，而不應該翻譯成唯一的[媒體]。此其一，有時候，英文中的media又指多數自然人[新聞記者]。譬如上文中的 media，就可翻譯成新聞記者（見上）。
如果讀者們願意，請注意英文新聞中的這個區別。西人很重視這個區別。一個就是一個，多個就是多個。譬如下面幾則例子：
According to the AFP news agency, the Supreme Court of Appeal found no evidence that the government had actually made a decision not to grant a visa, but did detect stalling tactics.------AFP是一個法人，遂是news agency。決不會寫成news media.
Two months ago, Iran's semi-official Fars news agency was forced to apologise after being taken in by a spoof news item from The Onion which declared rural Americans preferred Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to US President Barack Obama.
Fars是一個法人，遂是news agency.
而我們中國人卻亂來，一個人是[媒體人]，一個新華社也是[媒體]。法輪功的大紀元，一個報社，也是[媒體]。也有人寫[一家媒體]的。這樣不分單數多數的文字，誠然，中文很通。但是，我們如果試翻譯成英文，就會發現，其實不通。如：The Epoch is a media。這當然不通。要通，必須是：The Epoch is a news agency。
說到翻譯，如果[媒體]是media唯一的翻譯，毫無另外一種，只此一家，別無分店。哪麽，我們當然接受。如果有第二第三四五六。。。種翻譯，為什莫我們要接受醜陋的媒體？
用洋文化消滅中國自己的文化，好不光榮，人人搶著亁。
