Dear Congressman Smith,
I am a US permanent resident, who has been always concerned about the human rights situation in China. I and my friends noticed that on January 15, 2011 the website of ChinaAid posted a piece of news, which said "Thirty-two members of Congress on Friday sent an open letter to President Obama urging him to raise China’s “egregious human rights record” in his talks next week with visiting Chinese President Hu Jintao." The website also gave the link to the open letter, on which your name is the last. Here is the link to the news on ChinaAid: http://www.chinaaid.org/2011/01/us-house-members-urge-obama-to-raise.html
The reason I am writing to you is because it seems that ChinaAid is the sole source of this open letter. People cannot find the letter anywhere else. So, some of my friends are worried that that this letter does not actually exist, and the news was just fabricated. Although I believe that the news is true, I found it hard to convince my friends, since I cannot find this letter on the congressmen's official websites or other mainstream media websites. So, I am writing to you to confirm the existence of this open letter to the President.
Thank you very much for replying in advance.
And thank you very much for supporting human rights in China, including Liu Xiaobo, Gao Zhisheng, and Falun Gong followers.
Best,
