To be rich is glorious
Canadians are sitting on C$45 billion in cash because they are nervous in these uncertain times. So are the Americans. But invest in oil, mining and any stocks that will cash in on the Marshall Plans underway in China, India and other emerging economies.
Here are the facts about the world’s biggest urbanization underway from the McKinsey Global Institute and investment bank sources:
-- Some 350 million Chinese will move from farm to city by 2025, more than the population of the U.S. This is only 17 years away.
-- One billion Chinese will live in cities by 2030
-- 221 Chinese cities have more than one million population already. Europe has only 35 such cities.
-- Five billion square meters of road will be paved in China
-- 170 mass transit systems will be built
-- Five million buildings will be built with 40 million square meters of space
-- 50,000 skyscrapers will be built, equivalent to ten New Yorks.
-- In 1991, there were 23 cities in India with more than one million people. Now there are 35 and this will soar within 20 years.

Here is the infrastructure facts from Morgan Stanley:
US$21.7 trillion will be spent on infrastructure in emerging markets – 67% in Asia; 15% Eastern Europe; 11% Latin America; 4% Middle East and 3% Africa.
100,000 miles of pipeline
US$30 trillion on oil refineries
500 new offshore rigs costing US$250 billion
US$22 trillion in energy infrastructure to 2030 – transmission, distribution and energy generation facilities
US$40 trillion urban infrastrucuture by 2030, roads, sewers, etc.
Japan is the biggest investor in India and in 2007 invested Y225 billion in that country.
This is the greatest economic expansion in the history of the world and commodities/infrastructure are the best plays for years.
Most of this "build out" globally will be financed, if not owned, by the Middle East as well as wealthy investors/corporations/sovereign funds in countries like Canada and Australia which are blessed with massive resources. The wealthiest nations -- United States and European Union -- with expertise and huge capital pools, will also cash in.
