I believe your post, but it does not support your point.
Canton could be 2nd port at the time, it might be in 9 century and 10 century.
At that time, the sailing technology and the oversea trade size were still poor.
2nd international port might only deal with very little business.
There are two evidences usually linked to oversea trading: Tax and Pirate. I can
find a lot of stores in history, for the area between Shanghai and Fujian since
14 century and late. In 1800's, Canton started to have the Tax issue.
