干部或知识分子 are not in the same category in Culture revolution.
干部 is called Revolutionary Cadre(you know what I mean right?) To be educated is not a neccessary condition to be a cadre, but other conditions such as if one's a party member and if one's family's poor enough. In practice, a lot of low to non educated to be selected as cadre.
姑娘找对象也是更愿意找个干部或知识分子, wrong. 姑娘找对象, first, army officers, then other cadres, and workers, and etc
You're probably too young, no offense. Have ever watched TV series KE WANG(desire)? that's a great recount of the time, my parents told me, and I know how poor my family was in 70s to early 80s. Even in 80s, workers earned more than those universites and research instituts. At least it is true in my city, which is a capitol of a province, is that typical for you?
