1. Very few people ride the trains in U.S. and even fewer spend the $3 to reserve a seat. $3 is very little money. For those who do, it is like buying insurence policies. It is a matter of "just in case". It is all a matter of risk assessment.
2. What you and your family did was breaking the rules, albeit it didn't really amount to much in this case. People from under developed nations do that a lot and think they are so smart. That is why they remain backward nations. I have been to China and know this problem first hand.
3. Very few people in U.S. believe in Falungong. Most believers are Chinese. What the Americans are mainly concerned about is freedom of religion.
4. U.S. was built by immigrants. If at some future time, some Chinese descendant becomes the president, so be it. Chances are we will have a Hispanic president in the near future. We are not (at least try not to be) a narrow minded people and try not to exclude people because of their race, religion or ethnic origin.
