Mao cared very much about small details and frequently used small things to fight and humiliate his comerades.He did that kind of things a lot in Yan An.You can read a lot of these stories from people in Yan An's time
For exAMPLE, He arranged many Pi Dou Hui of Zhang Guo Tao, and he arranged those wired things , like what kind of slogans should be used and who would be leading in shouting those slogans, in details himself. He arranged one of Zhang Guotao's comerade to slap ZHang's face.
Mao always used small little things to so people that he was the boss, above zhou enlai or zhang wentian.
