This is an old baseball joke and is thoroughly a cliché by now. Only silly politicians use it to show off their language prowess. People just laugh out of politeness. Substantively, there is not much difference between this and Jiang reciting the Gettysburg speech in front of Madeleine Albright. We are not impressed.
