Science is powerful, but limited. Predictability probably stops somewhere in biology. Psychology is already more art than science. By the time one gets to sociology, it is all nonsense. Yet Marx claimed that he could predict history. Anyone who has read Asimov’s Foundation series knows how hopeless and absurd this really is. Shouldn’t they try to get tomorrow’s Dow Jones right before they embark on something more ambitious?
