MAN SHOT ON UPPER W. SIDE

January 18, 2006 -- A man working at an Upper West Side eatery was shot last night by a brazen robber who made off with $400, police said.
The wounded employee, who works at a Subway sandwich shop, was grazed in the right arm and taken to St. Luke's Hospital in stable condition.
The robbery occurred at 9:50 p.m. at Broadway between West 77th and 78th streets. It was not clear if the victim tried to stop the robber, who fled with the cash.
"This neighborhood never had any problems like this," said Frank Apergis, who works at the nearby Manhattan Diner and Cafe.
