I am so glad that you did not find my political opinions offensive. Nowadays, it is so easy to make enemies. Different political opinions would be more than enough to make yourself generally hated. So I am so glad you do not hate me like the others, though obviously our opinions are different.
I read your poster yesterday saying that the toppling of Saddam's statue reminded you of Chairman Mao's death. I was quite surprised that we were in common in this respect. Let me tell you something: I never celebrate my birthday because I believe it marks the day when my suffering started. Instead, I celebrate Chairman Mao's death and on Sep 9th of every year, I go to a bar to have a hearty drink.
Yeah, the woman did say something to that effect, though what I quoted was not her original words. She said I knew very little about Western civilization and was actually a "ca bian ren" (a guy between the edges of the two civilizations). So I idealized the West naively, exactly in the same way as I had idealized my first love.
She was really like a piece of metal waste (fei gang tie) produced during the Great Leap Forward. People of her generation were poorly educated, but they are most confident in effectively everything. They always speak with unquestionable authority. Here I am not talking about one particular person but the whole generation. So if you see someone talks that way, he/she must be of that generation.
