but from a different point of view. Actually, I sounded a bit patronizing. But as Old Owl (who does not read English so I am afraid your admiration is not heard. Next time write it in Chinese), or Big Bird as you call him, is my old friend, so I thought I could afford to be a bit casual.
Except for that minor point, I do not think I said anything fundamentally wrong. It is a fact that the perspective of a person living in China is bound to be limited one way or another. That is the fault of the Commies, not Old Owl's or any other ordinary citizen's. By saying that, I was only stating a fact, which I do not find offensive to any individual.
Unfortunately, you made a logic mistake here. What I said is that the Chinese citizens were deprived of the right to understand the outside world more comprehensively, but you interpreted as if I said anyone living in America would automatically become an "old-hand" of America. This is certainly not true and is by no means what I meant or even faintly hinted. For example, Mr Gao Han lives in America, but I firmly believe his knowledge about the USA and the modern world in general is even worse than those "angry youngsters" (fen qing) who live in the Mainland.
You have every right to believe in both President Bush and America. To be honest with you, I am envious of your simplicity, which is somewhat like virginity that I lost long, long ago. Indeed, your firm belief that America is certainly the best all over the world is really adorable. For this kind of religious feeling, I have nothing to say but fall silent in awe.
At the same time, I just wonder on what basis you made this clear-cut discovery: Perhaps you have been to most countries on this globe and have done extensive comparative studies. But if you ask me, I should venture to point out just one small problem: Perhaps the social welfare in the USA is far from "best". On the contrary, perhaps it is the worst among the developed countries. Considering its wealth, it is certainly a shame for the whole country.
