Intrepidly tramping on common sense

芦笛

Lao Ma claims that he is an advocate of skepticism. This is partially true. He is indeed skeptical to others' claims but never to his own. On the contrary, many times he showed extraordinary courage defying common sense. While he is doing so, one can never find any trace of doubt in his statements. In this way, he casts general conclusions one after another. The most striking feature is not the stunning absurdity of those conclusions, but the unbeatable, unparalleled and overflowing confidence, authority and fortitude of his tone. I have never seen another author who tramps on common sense as intrepidly as he does.

Suffices it to look at but two examples.

Example 1:

"There are two criteria to evaluate an armed force: First, being well equipped. Second, fearing no death."

Aren't you struck by the author's confidence here? Was there any doubt or hesitation while he was declaring this great discovery? Absolutely none!

Based on this, I draw my own conclusion: "Therefore, maniacs freshly released from asylums equipped with American weapons make the best army in the world."

Poor guy, he had never heard of "professionalism", let alone the fact that the pride of the Nazi German army, which he adores, was none other than their professionalism.

Unlike the professor, however, Ma did not accuse me of twisting his words. That's why I still respect him, for he has shown some kind of decency.

Example 2:

"There are two options for an army that is confronted with a powerful enemy that is going to wipe it out: to fight to the last man or to run away. Only the army that makes the first choice can win respects."

Is there any doubt here? Isn't this the most intrepid stamping on common sense? Anyone with the minimal sanity would not praise mass suicide, yet he just did that!

When the German army was about to circle Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, the Red Army defending that city begged Stalin to allow them to retreat, but Stalin ordered them to "fight until the last man". So 40 divisions were wiped out and 650,000 troops captured in a single battle, creating the world record that has hitherto not been broken yet.

Is this army, or rather, its supreme commander Stalin, worthy of respect, Lao Ma, my dear brother?

So much for your "skepticism", Lao Ma.
