Not many people have the heart/patience to bore into his bloody books nowaydays any more.
It seems to me that those you mentioned can be defined by conventional way as the middle class, rather than as the proletariat. The latter, by dictionary entries, are "wage earners collectivelly, esp. those without capital and dependent on selling their labor". A laborer is a person doing unskilled, usually manual work, for wages.
I do not think these trivial things would lead us anywhere. The common sense is that if a theory cannot be verified by a single practical event, it is worthless, even academically.
