This is written by a foreigner in a neutral tone (I think)
I was walking down my street, and I bumped into two Chinese people who were putting fliers in letters boxes. I was speaking to them and they have come over here (Adelaide) from Sydney (a long way away) on a bus. I live in the seat of the Australian Foreign Minister so they where targetting this area. Anyway, they were protesting the the actions of the Foreign Minister; he has made it illegal to protest outside the Chinese embassy. Unlike almost every other liberal democracy in the world, Australia has no bill of rights or basic protections of freedoms like freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom of religion, etc. Because there are no laws to protect basic human rights, the government can pretty much do as it pleases.
The mob these people were from is something called the Falun Gong. I'd never heard of it but speaking to other people its pretty well known. I went onto wikipedia and checked it out and it just seems like any other east Asian mediation/spiritual thing. But im so mad Im resisting the urge to start swearing or getting a rifle and going down to my MP's office demanding he retract this bullshit crackdown on the freedom to protest.
I am so very ashamed to be Australian. The way our government spits in the face of basic rights to keep the Chinese government happy so we can continue to export raw materials to them (a major part of Australian exports) is a disgrace. But not even allowing people to protest the actions of the Chinese government has gone way too far.
I took some photos of the flier.
