1. “柔胜刚，弱胜强。鱼不可以脱于深渊，邦之利器，不可以示人。” (海纳百川 www.hjclub.com)
芦笛:“柔胜刚，弱胜强”是《道德经》的中心思想，老头子说而又说，令人厌烦。可惜不知为何，从春秋战国时代起直到近现代中国，此话从来就没有成立过一毫秒。可笑的是，尽管此话在逻辑上是不证而论、强加于人的武断命题，在实践上从来都是被证伪的，它却一直作为老子的“辩证思想”而被大肆鼓吹，与咱们“富国强兵”的世纪目标并行不悖，真不知是咋回事。后面那两句话更可笑得紧：“鱼”和“邦之利器”有什麽鬼相干？鱼不可脱于深渊就是邦之利器不可示人的理由麽？鱼离渊则死，邦之利器示人则亡，不知国庆大阅兵展示的利器还健在否?
Superficial strength and real strengh:
The strength which can be easily observed is frequently not real strength. What is real strength can only be determined after the event. In addition, real strength is never context independent. Strength, as the base of coercison, is only effective when not used.
Hard power, unfortunately, frequently, leads to hardening of hearts. In term of statecraft, reduced policy flexibility is mostly bad. Present America is an example, it is so strong such that it does not have a foreign policy which is the theme of Kissenger's book "Does America need a foreign policy."

芦笛: 第一句话是老子对自然界普遍规律的观察。即使在远古毫无现代科学观测手段的情况下，这话也不成立：百川归海就是“损不足而奉有余”。还亏他老人家动不动就引水作比方，竟然连这个违反他的一般归纳的生动例子都看不见。不过老头子对“人之道”的观察倒是放之千古与五大洲而皆准，算是难得的例外吧。惜乎老人家脑袋混乱，这麽几句话，连用了三个“道”的概念（天之道，人之道，有道者），每个的涵义都不同。“道”是《道德经》的中心概念，却居然会如此混乱使用，在同一段话里竟然可以既作为学习对象和实现目标，又是批判对象，绝了。
天之道，损有余而补不足 means nature is self-regulated through negative feedback. One example is the population dynamics between wolves and sheeps. Good weather leads to an increase in the population of sheeps. The abundance of sheeps leads to larger wolf population whichs cut down the population size of sheep. Decreased number of sheeps naturally decreaes the number of wolves which in turn increases the number of sheeps.
In contrast, most human cultures are evolved to overcome such naturally occuring feedback. Human behaviors frequently exhibit a pattern of positive feedback. But positive feedback is usually not sustainble unless it is also part of another negative feedback loop.
