01 【胡平】∶孤独和孤独感并不是一回事。孤独是一种存在状态，孤独感是一种心理状态。最深刻的孤独感往往不是产生于离群索居，而是产生于喧闹的人群。“冠盖满京华，斯人独憔悴”。最深刻的孤独感是∶当你生活在喧闹的人群之中却又和周围的人格格不入。
【芦笛】∶Only Chinese can have such confusion. Anyone who speaks English can tell you “being lone” is not “being lonely”.
What a storm in the tea cup! So much for the great Chinese “thinker”!
02 【胡平】∶没有所谓“集体的羞耻”。譬如，当一个中国人说他生为中国人而感到丢脸时，他其实是在怪别的中国人给他丢了脸。这与其说是责己，不如说是责人。
【芦笛】∶Crap! So when the late German Chancellor fell on his knees in front of the monument
of the butchered Jews in Warsaw, he was not blaming the Germans as a whole but some other nations?
03 【胡平】∶热情和理性并不是冤家而是朋友。那些看上去热情有余、理性不足的人其实往往也缺少热情，缺少深刻的、持续的热情。
【芦笛】∶You cannot make such a stupid generalization. One can be both emotional and rational,
but this is not always the case and everybody knows that.
04 【胡平】∶在推卸责任时，列举的理由越多，说服的力量越小。
【芦笛】∶Does that mean you will be most persuasive if you give no reason at all? So why do
they open law schools and hold trials in the West?
05 【胡平】∶离婚既是自我的部份死亡，又是自我的一次新生。是苦是乐，端看二者比例而定。
【芦笛】∶No comments, because I am not experienced in this field.
06 【胡平】∶恐惧多半是面目模糊的。如果你有勇气正视它，仔细看清它的面目，那恐惧就不如先前一般恐惧了。无怪乎罗斯福要说“最大的恐惧是恐惧自身”。
【芦笛】∶What he is trying to say here is that “uncertainty might be more scary than tangible
terror”. But again, he has made a stupid generalization. For example, everyone can see the
horror of nuclear war most clearly, does that make it less terrifying?
【胡平】∶在这个世界上，做男人要比做女人难。生而为男人，他必须从事更多的工作，经历更强的竞争，肩负更重的责任，承受更大的风险。也许有人会提出异议∶难道迄今为止的历史不都是男人为主体的舞台？的确如此。但唯其如此，每一个男人才更不可能指望得到什么优待。最后，有人会反问∶为什么我们从来只听到有女人抱怨自己生而为女人，却听不到男人类似的抱怨？殊不知这正是做男人的最难之处，为了不被嘲笑,他甚至不能抱怨。
【芦笛】∶Again, stupid generalization. It depends more on the person’s character than sex.
I know quite a few families of which the fathers led much easier lives than the mothers.
07 【胡平】∶对男人，婚姻常常是地位的结果。对女人，地位常常是婚姻的结果。
【芦笛】: Can he learn how to think without make stupid childish generalization at all? What about
those guys under Empress Wu Zetian’s rule? He cannot even see the reason underlying the
phenomenon. The phenomenon he mentioned here is a reflection of the fact that most civilized
societies are male-dominated ones.
08 【胡平】∶人们常常需要为自己树立敌人，为的是给心中的种种恶意提供一个堂皇的发泄口。
【芦笛】∶The same applies to the leaders of the so-called “pro-democracy movement”.
Under such circumstances, however, they need enemies not only to maintain psychological balance
in their hearts, but to justify their existence as well.
09 【胡平】∶猫忠于房子，狗忠于主子。你可以要求一个人既是房子又是主子，但你不能要求一个人既是狗又是猫。
【芦笛】∶This sounds too much like baby talk. It would be a self-insult to make comments.
10 【胡平】∶有两种政敌∶一种是因为反对你的观点而反对你，一种是因为反对你而反对你的观点。
【芦笛】∶The third case is most frequently seen in the Chinese society, that is, the “opposition
party (parties)” does (do) not know what they are opposed to and what they really want. The
so-called “pro-democracy movement” in 1989 is the most typical example.
11 【胡平】∶如果我们总是教育孩子说，讲真话不会吃亏，那么，将来他们就会根据会不会吃亏来决定要不要讲真话。
【芦笛】: Baby talk again.
12 【胡平】∶逃兵的逻辑是∶战场太危险，打死我也不去。
【芦笛】∶Another example of baby-talk.
13 【胡平】∶谣言的主要目的不是让人相信而是让人疑惑。
【芦笛】:Baby talk. Loads of rumours spread just because people want to believe them. Also,
quite often people spread rumours without any concrete purpose.
14 【胡平】∶与其说谣言止于智者，不如说谣言止于贤者。因为传遥不传谣，与其说取决于判断力的高下，不如说取决于责任心的强弱。
【芦笛】: Crap! Can he ever forget these childish judgmental words like “贤者”, “好人”?
Can you believe he is 57 this year? As I said, loads of people spread a favourable rumour simply
because they want to believe it. In a closed society, quite often there is no way to verify a rumour,
no matter how wise or upright you are!
15 【胡平】∶没有理解，焉有谅解？没有直道，何来恕道？
【芦笛】: Playing with words. Very typical for the Chinese “intellectuals”.
16 【胡平】∶除了纯动物性的感官快乐外，凡略带精神性的、人性的感受，包括审美，都离不开他人的分享或参与。连孤芳自赏的心理也需要他人的介入。什么是孤芳自赏？孤芳自赏就是你坚持一种与众不同的追求，别人不理解、不以为然，别人向你投来惊讶、好奇、不满乃至憎恶的眼光。恰恰是这些未必令人愉快的种种眼光，才使你有了孤芳自赏的自怜又自傲的感受。阮籍对他瞧不起的人翻白眼。如果没有这号人走近你的身旁，你把白眼翻给谁看？如果别人根本没有察觉到你的白眼，你翻了又有什么用？
【芦笛】: Is he really a man? Every man knows that every now and then, a man needs to be left
alone, dwelling in his own thoughts. This could be tremendous intellectual recreation for himself alone.
17 【胡平】∶动物保护主义者有两种，有的人是因为爱人而爱动物，有的人爱动物是因为恨人。
【芦笛】: Baby talk + junk.
18 【胡平】∶这个世界起码有一半人是迷信者，也许还更多。时代的变迁只是改变了迷信的对象，而迷信本身却依然如故。迷信者最渴望智慧。对迷信者而言，只有那些他们不理解的东西才算得上是智慧。这就是那些昏话胡话总是比清醒的话明白的话更有市场的原因。
【芦笛】: How could he possibly forget to define“superstition” first?
19 【胡平】∶痛苦可以独自品尝，幸福必须与人分享。如果没有别人和你一同快乐，你也就不会感到任何快乐。
【芦笛】: Baby talk + junk (see para 16)
20 【胡平】∶作为感情，恨和爱都离不开和对象频繁的感性接触。我们很难恨那些我们平时接触不到的人。这就是为什么大暴君反而比小爪牙更不容易招致人们切肤之恨的原因。
【芦笛】: Total crap! I never really hate anyone that I have met in my life. The only person I hate to
death is Mao.
21 【胡平】∶倘若这个世界没有了敌人，只怕我们便会憎恨原来的友人；正如同我们的四周没有了友人，我们便会觉得那旧日的敌人也有几分可爱。
【芦笛】: He seems to be trying to tell you that ordinary people need a balance in their emotions.
So they need to hate some people and like/love others at the same time. I have never felt such a
need, because I do not really hate any living soul. Still, I do not feel I am imbalanced. Am I abnormal
or is he abnormal?
22 【胡平】∶敌人可能是最好的朋友，因为他们最热衷于寻找我们的缺失，这就促使我们随时保持清醒。同样的，有些朋友可能是最坏的敌人，因为他们太宠爱你因而太姑息你，到头来反而害了你毁了你。
【芦笛】: Baby talk + crap. Again, he has forgotten to define what kind of enemies he is talking
about here. So the Americans were the best friends of the Japs when they bombed Japan with
A-bombs?
23 【胡平】∶一般人只知道，在任何争端中，有利害牵涉的人不容易公正。他们不知道，那些全无利害关系的人却可能更不公正。
【马悲鸣】∶但又不能不选择陪审团，而选择陪审团的第一个条件就必须是没有利害牵涉的人。
【芦笛】: I have no more to day after my brother.
24 【胡平】∶会脸红的人是好人。
【芦笛】: So Nero (ancient Roman emperor) was a saint then, because he wept like a baby
whilst watching tragedy. How come Hu Ping has earned his fame? Incredible!
