長嘆一聲
芦笛
老端木, you are damn right, although I do not agree with what you said:
“發巴﹐人家老技覺得受辱。
我幹嗎要發這誓呢﹖”
Did you feel insulted when you were told that you would have to take an oath before taking
American citizenship? I think not. So what’s the difference?
Remember, on any formal occasion, such as a trial or even a listening at the congress, witnesses
are normally requested to take an oath, then the judge or the chairman would remind them: “Now
you can consider yourself under the oath.” In other words, you are legally bound to what you
have promised. That’s how they define perjury. You can lie, that is your birth-right, but not under
the oath.
Still, you are damn right when you said:
“別忘了﹐誰上台﹐都一樣﹐
都可能異化。你忘了﹐當皇帝之前﹐
都是農民兄弟﹐好樣的。坐上那個位置﹐
慢慢心態就會變。”
So true! I can never stop feeling surprised that power, even the imaginary power in this phoney
world of cyber space, can corrupt people so fast and so efficiently.
Take Arthur for example; even before he had sunken this ship and hijacked another, I had known
he was poisoned by the delusion of being powerful and important. To see through this, sufficed it
to have a glimpse at the incredible arrogance he showed when he was shouting at 加人. Later on,
his ego became so swollen that he showed up like the emperor again, this time to insult all the
citizens of 驴鸣镇 by calling 驴鸣镇 a “toilet”.
So the best way is to detach myself from the web business and identify myself as a guest of the
forum. Perhaps this is the only way to liberate myself from the tyranny of tech warlords.
Actually, the most pleasant days I spent on the web are the period during which I was active in
Shuodao. At that time, I did not give a damn to the prosperity of the forum, and just enjoyed
myself. So I was liked by everyone except the “patriots”. The CEO of Yinhe (Milky Way) treated
me as an honoured guest, for I attracted so many readers and writers for him. The readers loved
me because I spelled out what was in their minds.
Sadly, this honeymoon between the web and me was short lived. As soon as I got involved in
the construction and administration of this web station, what I had done was no longer considered
a personal favour but a duty. Worse still, since the prosperity of the forums now became the focus
of my whole concern, I started to offend those whom I regard as “savage dogs that make wine
sour by driving guests away” ( gou3 e4 jiu3 suan1). It was for this reason that I launched “sweeping
campaign” to drive Anhunqu and Kanhaoxi out of the forum, fearful that An’s bullish style might well
drive writers and readers away. Needless to say, the “sweeping campaign” split the club and sowed
the seeds of today’s disaster. Later on, when I wanted others to acknowledge my contributions, the
warlords just kicked others who dared to disagree out.
So perhaps the wise thing for me to do is to disappear slowly after the current crisis is over.
