Obama today met with the entire Democratic caucus, and they seem to be holding firm and uniting behind the president's "no negotiation" stance. He told his party that he'd negotiate with Republicans but "not with a gun at my head," Politico reports.
White House press secretary Jay Carney said the president is "disappointed" that Speaker Boehner is "preventing his members from coming to the White House." By that, Carney presumably means that Boehner is "preventing" his members from meeting Obama by refusing to meet the president's conditions: a House vote on a "clean" CR and debt ceiling increase.
This morning Obama offered Boehner something of an olive branch. He said he'd start talks if Boehner would pass a very short-term CR and debt ceiling bill. But Boehner has already rejected the proposal.
