<object><param></param><param></param><param></param></object>
Yours,

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the Clinton Global Initiative?

What is the Clinton Global Initiative?
President Clinton and the William J. Clinton Foundation established the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) in 2005 to turn ideas into action. A non-partisan initiative of the William J. Clinton Foundation, CGI moves beyond discussion, fostering a sense of shared responsibility to address major global problems. From presidents to academics, from the boardroom to the classroom, CGI members from all walks of life are creating positive change.
CGI conducted its inaugural meeting in 2005 in New York City. At the 2007 Annual Meeting, President Clinton expanded CGI by launching three new projects: CGI Asia, CGI University, and MyCommitment.org.
Does the Clinton Global Initiative have any political affiliations?
CGI is a nonpartisan initiative, bringing together a carefully selected group of the world’s best minds and most distinguished problem solvers to focus on practical, effective measures that can be taken now. These leaders come from a wide variety of political, ideological, religious, ethnic, and geographic backgrounds, and include current and former heads of state, top business executives, preeminent scholars, and representatives of key non-governmental organizations.
What makes CGI unique?
CGI is unlike other world conferences in one respect: it is determined to change things now, by discussing some of the world’s most pressing problems; detailing successful responses to them; seeking the best new solutions; and most importantly, requiring each member to make a specific Commitment to Action.
Does CGI provide funding of any kind?
No, unfortunately CGI is not a grant-making organization and does not provide funding directly to our members' commitments. Instead, CGI acts as a marketplace that matches ideas, resources, and knowledge and facilitates effective partnerships that result in social or environmental change.
Does CGI have any employment/intern opportunities?

Who can I contact if I have further questions about the Initiative?
Please email us at [email protected].
William Jefferson Clinton
42nd President of the United States
Founding Chairman, Clinton Global Initiative
Elected president of the United States in 1992 and 1996, President Bill Clinton led the country through the longest economic expansion in its history. His emphasis on community, opportunity, and responsibility resulted in unprecedented progress for America, including moving the nation from record deficits to record surpluses; 22 million new jobs; low levels of unemployment, poverty, and crime; and the highest homeownership rates in history. He also increased investment in education, expanded access to technology, encouraged investment in underserved communities, protected the environment, countered the threat of terrorism while promoting peace and strengthening democracy around the world. After leaving the White House, President Clinton established the William J. Clinton Foundation with the mission to strengthen the capacity of people in the United States and throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence.
SPONSORSHIP
How can my company sponsor the Clinton Global Initiative?
Sponsors of CGI proudly share the common goals of finding solutions to problems stemming from climate change, ensuring global health, alleviating poverty, and providing access to quality education. Companies can sponsor entire events or specific parts of an event and there are other unique non-event sponsorship opportunities. If you or your company are interested in becoming a sponsor of the Initiative, please contact us at [email protected] or call (212) 397-2255.
How do I apply for a grant from CGI?
CGI does not make grants. Funds allocated to projects by our members through their Commitments to Action go to those specific projects and do not pass through CGI. Rather, CGI acts as a facilitator for matching select projects with funding. We do not serve as an actual funds provider.
Building on President Clinton's lifetime in public service, the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) reflects his belief that governments need collaboration from the private sector, non-governmental organizations, and other global leaders to effectively confront the world’s most pressing problems. After attending thousands of meetings during his career in which urgent needs were discussed but no action was taken to solve them, President Clinton saw a need to establish a new kind of meeting with an emphasis on results.
In 2005, President Clinton established CGI to turn ideas into action and to help our world move beyond the current state of globalization to a more integrated global community of shared benefits, responsibilities, and values. By gathering world leaders from a variety of backgrounds, CGI creates a unique opportunity to channel the capacities of individuals and organizations to realize change. To fulfill the action-oriented mission of CGI, all members devise practical solutions to global issues through the development of specific and measurable Commitments to Action.
CGI Annual Meetings have brought together more than 125 current and former heads of state, 15 Nobel Peace Prize winners, hundreds of leading global CEOs, major philanthropists and foundation heads, directors of the most effective non-governmental organizations, and prominent members of the media. These CGI members have made nearly 1,700 commitments valued at $57 billion, which have already improved more than 220 million lives in 170 countries.
The CGI community also includes CGI University (CGI U), a forum to engage college students in global citizenship; CGI Asia; MyCommitment.org, an online portal where anybody can make their own Commitment to Action; and, CGI Lead, which engages a select group of young leaders from business, government, and civil society.
