Anybody here care to write reviews on these two books?
1. 'SEEDS OF FIRE - CHINESE VOICES OF CONSCIENCE'.
Edited by Geremie Barme and John Minford, forward by Orville Schell.
To Lu Xun, on the fiftieth anniversary of his death, October 19, 1936.
... the voices of China's conscience and hope, repeatedly gagged and always rising again in endless relay, verify the words of Lu Xun, China's most illustrious revel: 'As long as there shall be stones, the seeds of fire will not die." - Simon Leys, The Burning Forest.
"A prophetic book that foreshadowed the political drama of Tiananmen Square in the spring of 1989. Seeds of Fire brings together for the first time a full range of China's long-suppressed dissenting voices."
Geremie Barme is a translator and scholar at the China Centre of the Australian National University at Canberra; John Minford is Professor of Asian Languages and Literature at the University of Auckland in New Zealand.
2. "In the Red - on Contemporary Chinese Culture" by Geremie Barme
He is also the author of 'Shades of Mao: The Posthumous Career of a Great Leader' and the editor of several books, including (with Linda Jaivin) New Ghosts, Old Dreams: Chinese Rebel Voices. He has also translated two volumes of Chinese essays and was a coauthor of and advisor for the documentary film "The Gate of Heavenly Peace."
