Mandella speaks
芦笛
Another busy day, so just another quick word.
I was too involved in the "hypocrisy" debate to say anything else. Now after the dusts settled down, I recall the news report broadcast a couple of weeks ago, in which Mandella criticized George W. Idiot Bush's policy, saying that he "cannot think properly", was a racist, and was about to commit genocide, etc.
When I heard him speaking so on the TV, I could not help but to remember an article written by Mr Cao Changqing, wondering what he had to say about Mandella's comments. According to him, Saddam was the modern Hitler, but now Mandella said it was Bush, the idiot, who was about to commit genocide.
Then I remembered a book by a Hungarian author, George Mikes (or something like that. I don't remember). In that book, he described a foreigner who had become a British citizen during the golden times of the British Empire. As a result, he was even more patriotic than the native English people. During the war, when he heard a few airplane were shot down by another country, he was furious and exclaimed to others:
"Outrageous! Unbelievable! You mean they shot down our planes?! How come!"
"I am sorry," the other replied, "but you got it all wrong. They were OUR planes, not YOURS!"
I am writing this not as some kind of hidden personal attack, but as a piece of advice to those who have taken American passports (or passports of other countries, for that matter). Tactically speaking, if you want to convince the reader with your points, try to keep certain distance from the country that picked you up and fed you when you were in trouble. Stop being more "patriotic" than the native citizens of that country. Otherwise you would have no credibility and could only make yourself a laughing-stock in the eyes of your former compatriots.
