it might not be a simple mathematical game to maintain a colony of human beings or animals. The one-foot-stick theorum might not maintain when you approach, say, two people. Actually, one can see the point how difficult it is to maintain the survival of such animals like the giant panda (at least the pandas want to breed by instinct).
