Poetry and other artistic endeavor is about living, conversing and confronting some un-utterable sentences and long held silence. Translation is to ease where there is unsurmountable barriers for communicating grace and mercy; to perturb where it is far too easy to repeat doing the same old routines and meet the same kind of persons. I find the above discussion an important subject. Selection of Literary translation, from Chinese to English and vice versa, in my point of view, should always be treated like reformation. The greater the work in one culture, the more difficult it is to find an adequate translation in another 's tongue and utterance of truth. Most translators, if they truly appreciate both cultural heritage, the more they are keen to the polemic of following the traditional smooth-talking 'grammar' of each native language and more innovative and daring must the spirit of the messages be expressed as a universal truth or universal conflict in history. Care to share more about your own experience in translating the almost un-translatable verse ?
