Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke Likely to Exit
Next president will also be searching for a Treasury secretary

Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke is headed out the door in 2014 no matter who wins the presidential election, The New York Times reports. The election winner two weeks from now will already have to replace Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, who has made clear he's leaving at the end of the year no matter what.
Potential replacements for Fed chair in a Romney administration, writes Andrew Ross Sorkin, include Glenn Hubbard, who headed the Council of Economic Advisers under President George W. Bush. Other possibilities "are N. Gregory Mankiw, who also headed the Council of Economic Advisers, and John B. Taylor, a Stanford economist, though he is considered more of a long shot."
It's less clear who a reelected President Obama would choose. But for the open Treasury secretary slot one possibility is Erskine Bowles, the former Clinton White House chief of staff and debt reduction panel co-leader. Treasury secretary possibilities for a President Romney include Robert B. Zoellick, former president of the World Bank and Sen. Rob Portman of Ohio.
