Wei Jingsheng Proposes a New Polite during and after the 2008 Olympic
Games in Beijing
On December 8, 2007, at the General Council of the Nonviolent Radical
party, Transnational and Transparty, Wei Jingsheng, the Overseas
Chinese Democracy Coalition chairman made a proposal to everyone. He
asked people to use all opportunities, including the news media, to
call on the people who attend the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games to use a
new polite gesture during greetings and other occasions: namely, the
gesture that Buddists like the Dalai Lama use when meeting people or
praying. Place the two hands vertically, facing each other and touching
palm to palm, in front of your chest.
And keep this politeness gesture in the future, in an effort to express
the desire of praying for peace and caring about human rights.
This suggestion was well received with enthusatic applause.
