This argument about Madison being a protégé of Jefferson therefore the credit goes to Jefferson also doesn’t wash. Jefferson learned his trick from someone also, but he gets the credit for what he did. Politically, Hamilton was at the other end of the spectrum.
Jefferson wanted a weak federal government. Since the Confederacy was obviously not working, the people who were at the Convention thought otherwise, and decided to form a relatively strong government which was not to his liking and that was why he fought against it.
Altogether, the end product was very different from what Jefferson had in mind.
