The problem is not that China is trying to emulate U.S. too much, but not enough. A prominent Chinese scholar once told me in private that China is trying to copy the ways of America. I was pleased to hear that the Chinese government is moving in the right direction.
Suppose we wake up tomorrow and find China with a law abiding citizenry, a pioneering spirit and a top of the line high tech industry? Wouldn’t that be great? The Americans have their problems, but they are nothing compared to what China faces. The task facing China is nothing short of modernizing a medieval society. What statesmen won’t want to change this intractable problem for the problems of America?
